A generic AI scribe had caused headaches for Halcyon Dermatology, with frequent errors. A new tool – with precise procedure details, appropriate codes and complete clinical justification automatically captured – has enabled more exact EHR notes.

And that was as the health system's ED visit volume increased by more than 20%. The analytics tool has relieved pressure on the emergency department while improving patient satisfaction. A doctor of nurse practice and patient throughput expert offers details on those successes.

Within the first week of use, the badges helped security teams at the Michigan health system quickly stop more than a dozen dangerous incidents. That's a big safety improvement for nurses and other staff, compared to its previous phone-based process.

Dr. Viviane Bunin also is boosting patient satisfaction and getting reimbursed for this new technology: Of 66 HRV tests to date, 78.8% were reimbursed by insurers. "Patient feedback has been remarkable," she says.

The health system is finding success with predictive models and LLMs and is "eager to understand and leverage" more advanced use cases, while ensuring they're "safe, secure, ethical and unbiased," says Chief Analytics Officer Kerri Webster, RN.

At Healthcare 2030, panelists highlighted successful programs at the VA and other government agencies that included integrating digital tools like remote monitoring and AI scribes.
