The predictive models, available via GitHub, are meant to help health systems assess potential impact on supply chains and staffing and more as they map out their bed and ventilator strategies.

Just days after the application period opened, some $3.23 million has already been approved to help hard-hit health systems deploy telemedicine technology, connected devices and remote patient-monitoring tools.

Eligible organizations would get full funding for approved services and devices "necessary to provide critical connected care" until funds are exhausted or until the pandemic has subsided.

"My world before COVID consisted of taking care of patients one at a time," says one doctor. "Now, my duty is to serve an entire patient population." Other providers will soon have to acquaint themselves with remote monitoring and new models of care.

At the Maine Rural Health Research Center, the goal is to help critical access hospitals find innovative and cost-effective ways to build healthier communities.

The cloud-based platform, developed in collaboration with Stanford Medicine, enables hospitals to submit requests for specific items and be matched with peer organizations who can provide them.

Some health systems foresee delayed implementation efforts because they lack the bandwidth right now to plan for them – but some technologies, particularly telehealth, are in high demand.
