Health Resources and Services Administration, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has bestowed $792,000 on the University of Louisville School of Nursing with an eye towards helping it develop a nursing informatics program for the school's undergraduate and graduate students, as well as for practicing nurses from University of Louisville Hospital.

October 4th was the first day of the National REC and HIE Summit West. I attended the preconference symposium on "Meaningful Use - What It Is and How To Qualify." What impressed me about this symposium was the sincerity and passion of the speakers, who are early adopters of EHRs and true physician champions.

A web-based tool that extracts information from the electronic medical record is helping physicians provide better care for patients with diabetes and heart disease, according to a new Kaiser study. A separate study showed the technology, called Panel Support Tool, also helped doctors provide better preventive care.
