EMR adoption is "Not so much about the technology as it is the culture," according to Jim Deren, healthcare IT planning specialist for CareTech Solutions. In the upcoming HIMSS Virtual Conference and Expo, being held June 9-10, Deren will join Heidi Blizzard, EMR/CPOE project manager for Mich.-based Crittenton Hospital, in a session on hospital EMR adoption Dos and Don'ts.
Deren said the main theme of "The Roadmap to EMR Adoption and IT Optimization" will be the development of an appropriate adoption plan.
"The main theme of this seminar is going to focus on the need to develop an appropriate road map for provider EMR adoption," said Deren. "This is really important. Providers need to develop a solid floor plan or else the whole thing is chaos."
Blizzard and Deren will be covering a number of topics throughout the hour-long session. Deren will be focusing on project management of IT adoption,while Blizzard will be explaining certain lessons learned from other provider experiences and best training practices, as well as the importance of physician adoption.
"Complexity has been a big issue," said Deren. Meaningful use has made adoption far more complex for providers and makes having a plan of attack far more important, said Deren.
The Virtual Conference session "The Roadmap to EMR Adoption and IT Optimization," will take place on June 9 from 10:00 AM to 11:00AM CST.
