Vendor Notebook - WorkflowEHR software to include MaxMD encryption

MaxMD, a Fort Lee, N.J.-based provider of secure Web services to providers and healthcare organizations, and Workflow.com, a Rocky River, Ohio-based provider of electronic health records and practice management solutions, announced a partnership agreement under which Workflow.com will offer MaxMD’s HIPAA-compliant email and data encryption capability as an embedded technology in workflowEHR and Workflow.com’s other software products. Workflow.com's resellers will also be able to offer MaxMD technology with Workflow.com products, and its existing customers will have the option to upgrade.

eMix, a new business venture from San Diego-based DR Systems, announced that its cloud-based technology for sharing imaging studies and reports has added a new capability: importing and sharing data from CDs, DVDs and other external media. Although eMix replaces the need to share radiology data via hard copy media such as CDs and DVDs, many facilities still receive a significant number of radiology files in CD form. This new innovation now allows institutions to import CD files into eMix, and to use eMix as a convenient place to hold the exams before deciding what they want to do with it.

CareTech Solutions, of Troy, Mich., an information technology and Web products and services provider for more than 150 hospitals nationwide, announced the appointment of Michael Duggan, Detroit Medical Center president and CEO; and Jay Rising, Detroit Medical Center executive vice president and CFO, to the CareTech Solutions board of directors. A privately held company formed in 1998, CareTech Solutions is governed by a six-person board with equal representation from its owners, Compuware Corporation, the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) and Oakwood Healthcare System.

MDLiveCare Health Services
, a Sunrise, Fla.-based provider of advanced, on-demand telehealth services, has extended its MDLiveCare national provider network through affiliations with Tarzana Treatment Centers, based in Los Angeles, Calif.; Bayview Center for Mental Health, based in Miami, Fla.; and North Central Behavioral Health Systems, serving Central and North Central Illinois. Additionally, Bayview, North Central and Tarzana have been licensed to use MDLiveCare's proprietary technology for online consultations among their own behavioral health providers and clients.

Carestream Health, of Rochester, N.Y., has been awarded a sole source PACS service agreement by National Institutes of Health (NIH). The CARESTREAM PACS is a fully featured platform that offers highly productive viewing, management, sharing and storage of medical images and information that can benefit healthcare providers of virtually any size. Based in Bethesda, Md., NIH is the world's largest clinical research complex and its Clinical Center is the nation's largest medical research hospital. The organization incorporates 27 different Institutes and Centers, each with its own specific research mission.

Digitech Systems, of Greenwood Village, Colo., has announced that it has added significant enhancements to PaperVision Capture, including a quality control module to ensure image quality and index accuracy. PaperVision Capture allows businesses to design flexible processes to scan paper documents, convert them to an electronic format, and index them for secure storage, management and retrieval within an enterprise content management system. With quality control for PaperVision Capture, businesses can quickly confirm the accuracy of the index values used to locate each document.

EHS, a Birmingham, Ala.-based company specializing in electronic health record (EHR) and physician practice management software systems, has announced that the Jefferson County Department of Health (JCDH) has successfully tested the EHS product, CareRevolutiion, on Apple's iPad. This deployment, while not native to the iPad, is a testament to the flexibility and standards adhered to by CareRevolution. Using the recently announced Citrix Receiver, from Citrix Systems, the JCDH is able to access and use CareRevolution on the iPad.

NCR Corporation, of Duluth, Ga., has announced that Richmond Bone & Joint Clinic (RBJC), an orthopedic specialty practice, has deployed its patient self-service solution in three of its four Houston-area locations. The NCR MediKiosk solution automates and speeds routine processes by allowing RBJC patients to check-in for scheduled appointments and remit co-pays and outstanding balances via self-service kiosks.
