Vendor Notebook - IBM, athenahealth ink deal

IBM has signed a business process services agreement with athenahealth, the provider of Web-based business services for physician practices. The engagement will enable athenahealth to focus its resources on simplifying and improving administrative and reimbursement processes while reducing staff workload, allowing doctors to focus on delivering higher quality care. IBM will provide voice, data and administrative support for athenahealth in the areas of revenue cycle management such as ensuring timely physician reimbursement for the services they provide, and clinical data management services including data entry processes for information such as lab reports and physician’s orders.

My LifePlan, the Ravenna, Ohio-based company that provides immediate, secure access to vital medical information, has announced the successful deployment of MyChoice with the Fire Department of Stow, OH, and a Letter of Intent for service with Akron General Medical Center. A secure, Web-based, subscription medical information service,  MyChoice utilizes fingerprint biometrics from BIO-key, a pioneer in biometric identification solutions, to empower individuals with control of their medical information, and provide instant access to Emergency medical and other related personnel.

's Centricity Perinatal solution continues to expand its customer base with several key implementations since January, adding 12 new customers to its current install base of more than 1500. The latest Centricity Perinatal equipped hospitals and health systems include: Brookwood Medical Center (Ala.), Carolinas Healthcare System (N.C.), Fairview Health Services (Minn.), Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center (Wis.), Midwest Regional (Okla.) and Wellstar (Ga.)

Summit Healthcare, a the Braintree, Mass.-based healthcare system integration and task automation company, has partnered with Seymour, Indiana’s Schneck Medical Center. Summit Healthcare will provide Schneck with tools to help the organization gain control of its interface environment and automate various processes. Summit Healthcare’s integration engine will also lay a foundation to help Schneck meet its strategic interconnectivity goals over the next few years.

ClaimTrust, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., a leading provider of revenue cycle tools and services for hospitals, has announced the availability of its newest product, InSight Audit, a fully hosted, web-based solution that will provide healthcare organizations with one central location for managing all medical claims audits. Building on the core workflow and reporting capabilities of its industry leading RAC tool, ClaimTrust’s new InSight Audit solution offers a full set of features for submitting, tracking and appealing claims in response to a range of audits, including Medicaid Integrity Plan (MIP) and Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC).

Med-Vantage, of San Francisco, a healthcare software solutions company that offers solutions for consumer transparency, provider performance management, and quality improvement, has announced HealthSmart Enhanced Provider Directory Mobile, an add-on component to the HealthSmart Enhanced Provider Directory that lets health plans empower members to search for providers and facilities directly from their mobile device.

Viztek, the Garner, N.C.-based radiology solution provider, has installed its Opal-ORTHO PACS and U-Arm DR at Associated Orthopedics & Sports Medicine (AOSM) located in two facilities in Frisco and Plano, Texas.  At AOSM, the staff of board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons, physiatrists, physician assistants, nurses, rehabilitation specialists and administrative staff provide a complete circle of care – from the initial diagnosis through patient education, treatment, recovery and rehabilitation.

A-Life Medical, of San Diego, a provider of computer-assisted coding (CAC) products and services to the healthcare industry, has announced an exclusive agreement with Cleveland-based Drs. Hill & Thomas Co., the oldest and largest independently owned radiology group in Ohio. Under the agreement, A-Life Medical will provide exclusive CAC services that directly address radiology procedures.
Perceptive Software, the Shawnee, Kan. maker of enterprise content management (ECM) software – including ImageNow document management, imaging and workflow technology – has announced that San Juan Regional Medical Center will use Perceptive Software’s ECM solutions in several key back-office departments. Processes San Juan Regional Medical Center expects to enhance include those within accounts payable, human resource/payroll, supply chain and patient financial services.

Quality Systems, the Irvine, Calif.-based developer of healthcare information systems, has announced that several executives have been promoted into expanded roles as the company further strengthens its veteran management team. Tim Eggena has been named executive vice president of research and development, a role with newly created and expanded responsibilities that includes the overseeing of all ambulatory research and development efforts. Concurrently, Monte Sandler was promoted to assume the role of executive vice president of NextGen Practice Solutions, responsible for managing the company’s RCM business unit. Additionally, Donn Neufeld, who served as senior vice president and general manager of QSI's Dental unit, was named executive vice president of electronic data interchange (EDI) and dental, for both NextGen and QSI.
