Hologic, a Bedford, Mass.-based developer, manufacturer and supplier of premium diagnostics, medical imaging systems and surgical products dedicated to serving the healthcare needs of women, announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Toronto's Sentinelle Medical, a provider of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) breast coils, tables and visualization software. The purchase price for the transaction will be $85 million, plus a two-year contingent earn out. The earn out will be payable in cash installments equal to a multiple of the incremental revenue growth in Sentinelle Medical’s business in the two years following the closing.
TeleTracking Technologies’ TransferCenter software, just three months after its release, has been adopted by 13 medical centers in order to help speed patient transfers from other hospitals. The new TransferCenter application streamlines placement of transferred patients by automating much of the intake process. It also allows transfer center staff to make direct bed requests and get real time status updates within the application itself when it is integrated with Capacity Management Suite, powered by TeleTracking XT. Another popular feature is its ability to collect and store data for later use, such as the analysis of referral patterns and geographic volume.

Viztek, the Garner, NC-based radiology solution provider, has installed its Opal-RAD PACS and advanced digital radiography (DR) technology at Rockwall Urgent Care, in Rockwall, Tex. The new facility is a full service, walk-in clinic, open seven days a week to provide the community with the highest standard of care. Rockwall offers a large range of services and consists of six physicians. In addition to streamlining workflow within the facility, Opal-RAD PACS enables outside referring physicians fast and secure access to patient files and exams. With Viztek’s Opal-RAD Web-based PACS, Rockwall now has the ability to send information digitally through the PACS.
AccelaRAD’s SeeMyRadiology.com has expanded its business, announcing a new relationship with Gwinnett Medical Center (GMC) a Georgia-based not-for-profit network providing health care services to the Gwinnett, Duluth, and Lawrenceville communities. The first of the three-part agreement establishes SeeMyRadiology.com as GMC’s business continuity solution, protecting, safeguarding, and sustaining GMC’s PACS (picture, archiving and communication system) during routine maintenance, or unexpected technology failures. With SeeMyRadiology.com, GMC’s physicians will be able to continue viewing medical images, through the web-based system, during PACS downtime.
Carestream Health, of Rochester, NY, announced that members of the Premier Healthcare alliance can now order the CARESTREAM DRX-1 System through a specially negotiated agreement with Premier Purchasing Partners, LP. This wireless digital radiography system was added to the Premier portfolio through its Technology Breakthroughs program, which improves Premier hospitals’ access to products deemed to be significant technological advancements. The Premier Healthcare alliance serves more than 2,300 U.S. hospitals and 67,000-plus healthcare sites. Its Technology Breakthroughs Program was created in 1997 to improve Premier members’ access to new technologies. Premier uses a four-stage, evidence-based approach to review and consider products.
GE announced that Wichita Clinic, in Wichita, Kan., plans to implement its Centricity EMR across all twelve of its locations to help staff manage the half million patient visits the system averages each year. The electronic medical record will complement the Centricity Business practice management solution Wichita has been using across its network of clinics since 1999. Wichita Clinic is participating in GE’s Stimulus Simplicity financing program which combines highly attractive financing terms from GE Capital with a software certification warranty from GE Healthcare.

MicroStrategy Incorporated, a McLean, Va.-based provider of business intelligence (BI) software, announced that VHA, a national health care network, has selected MicroStrategy Mobile to build its mobile business intelligence application that gives hospitals instant access to supply chain analytics data. VHA members will access the new mobile application through VHA SupplyLYNX, which provides seamless access to price benchmarking and spending reports. Mobile access to this information will enable hospital executives to continually monitor cost reduction efforts and drive supply chain savings. The new mobile platform, built using MicroStrategy Mobile, will enable VHA member hospitals to report, analyze, and monitor data to reveal trends and insights from handheld devices to make better business decisions at their convenience.
ITelagen, a Jersey City, NJ-based provider of Healthcare IT solutions was selected by Christ Hospital, in Jersey City, to provide electronic health records (EHR) as part of an entire back- office solution that includes outsourced billing and unlimited IT support for their affiliate Canterbury Medical Associates. ITelagen also announced that it was selected by Zweena, of West Windsor, NJ to host their Zweena Health Record, personal health record application. The TriZetto Group, of Newport Beach, Calif., announced that Saint Mary's Health Plans (SMHP) in Reno, Nev., has licensed TriZetto's QNXT EssentialsTM software and services to improve the reliability and functionality of its information systems, automate more of its administrative processes and support business growth and HIPAA 5010 and ICD-10 migrations. Providing health coverage to 40,000 people in Nevada, SMHP expects to go live on TriZetto's QNXTTM 4.7 system on Jan. 1, 2011. The QNXT Essentials web package licensed by SMHP also includes TriZetto's new Member and Provider Service real-time portal applications. The license further includes TriZetto's ClaimCheck Connector product, a specialized module that interfaces between the QNXT platform and McKesson's ClaimCheck application.
athenahealth, Watertown, Mass.-based provider of Web-based practice management, electronic health record (EHR), and patient communication services to medical groups, announced that the latest version of its web-based EHR service, athenaClinicals Version 10.6, has been inspected by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) and is certified EHR technology, IFR Stage 1, preliminarily meeting 24 of 24 requirements for Eligible Providers published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in the Interim Final Rule (IFR).
