Vendor Notebook - Axolotl releases Elysium Express

Axolotl, the San Jose-based provider of health information exchange (HIE) services and solutions, announced the availability of its new Elysium Express, which offers quick, easy and affordable hospital-to-physician and physician-to-physician connectivity. Elysium Express is able to send discrete, computable clinical data to any ambulatory Electronic Medical Record (EMR). For physicians in paper-based practices, Elysium Express provides an on-line Clinical Inbox where they can review and manage results by logging on via any secure Web browser with a broadband connection.

Royal Philips Electronics announced this week that it has agreed to acquire the business of CDP Medical, an Israel-based provider of Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), and a subsidiary of medical device distributor Medtechnica Ltd. The acquisition marks the next step in the execution of Philips Healthcare’s strategy to expand its clinical informatics portfolio with solutions that increase its ability to meet the diverse and growing needs of the different markets around the world.

Emerson Network Power, a business of St. Louis-based Emerson that specializes in enabling business-critical continuity, has introduced the Avocent Virtual Advanced Console Server 6000 (ACS v6000), a new tool for secure, remote data center and out-of-band management of virtual assets. The Avocent ACS v6000 offers a complete, centralized management solution that grants authorized users access to enterprise resources, keeping virtual assets available constantly while enforcing strict security measures.

Imprivata, of Lexington, Mass., has announced a relationship with Palo Alto-based VMware that integrates VMware View and Imprivata OneSign. The integration will enable secure and convenient end-point data access and user roaming desktops with location awareness in virtual desktop environments. Under the partnership, Imprivata and VMware will conduct joint marketing, sales and support initiatives within healthcare and other markets where customers are eager to leverage the value of the combination of virtual desktops with simplified and secure user access to improve user productivity.

Proventys, a Newton, Mass.-based maker of advanced decision support technologies, and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network have entered into an exclusive collaboration to introduce the Proventys CDS Oncology system, a first-of-its-kind Web platform that arms oncologists with expert recommendations and evidence facilitating the delivery of high-quality, individualized patient care. Through this collaboration, Proventys and NCCN are bringing together the recognized standard in oncology clinical guidelines and novel informatics technologies to help clinicians optimize treatment decisions for patients while improving practice efficiencies.
eClinicalWorks, of Westborough, Mass., announced that Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC), one of the largest community hospitals in the mid-Atlantic, has selected eClinicalWorks unified EMRs and practice management (PM) for the Greater Baltimore Medical Associates (GBMA), the GBMC’s employed physician group that is comprised of more than 100 employed physicians located across 40 practices. The multi-specialty group has also selected additional services including eClinicalWorks Electronic Health eXchange, eClinicalWorks Patient Portal, and Enterprise Business Optimizer, which will further optimize patient care.

SRS, Montvale, N.J.-based maker of EMR technology and services for high-performance, specialty practices announced that OA Centers for Orthopaedics has selected the SRS hybrid EMR for its 41 high-performance specialists. With headquarters in Portland, Maine and satellite centers in Windham and Saco, OA conducts 80,000 patient visits per year, making them the busiest orthopaedic practice in the state.

CardioGenics Holdings, Mississauga, Ont.-based developer of the ultra-sensitive QL Care Point-Of-Care analyzer and products for the immunoassay segment of the In-Vitro Diagnostics market, announced that CardioGenics Inc. and Merck Chimie S.A.S. have agreed on a plan to commercialize CardioGenics' proprietary paramagnetic beads. Merck-Chimie is one of the world's largest suppliers of such beads, a roughly $1 billion product category. The beads are a key component of virtually every immunoassay analyzer. CardioGenics' proprietary technology enhances the signaling properties of the beads, increasing the sensitivity of immunoassay analyzers by up to sevenfold.

Shared Health, of Chattanooga, Tenn., has been awarded the HIPAA Security and Privacy Covered Entity accreditations from URAC, a Washington, DC-based health care accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the health care industry. With a strong emphasis on the fundamentals of ongoing risk management, URAC's HIPAA Security Accreditation program enables health care organizations to validate their security compliance program to safeguard Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with the HIPAA Security Rule.

TeraMedica, a Milwaukee-based, medical informatics company, announced the launch of its new Enterprise Data Migration (EDM) Services offering as part of its commitment to solving the growing data migration and interoperability challenges across the enterprise. This next generation EDM Services provides a solution to the multi-variant challenges faced by healthcare providers on the issue of data migration, integrity and endurance.

NextGen Healthcare Information Systems announced an agreement with the American Medical Association (AMA) to offer physicians NextGen Ambulatory EHR and NextGen Practice Management on a new AMA online platform. The platform will enable physicians to assess and meet their clinical and practice needs. It will provide physicians access to information, products and services with a single, secure sign-on. Currently being beta tested in Michigan in collaboration with the Michigan State Medical Society, the platform will launch nationwide by the beginning of 2011.

DataGen, of Albany, N.Y., has announced that the Maryland Hospital Association (MHA) and two multi-state hospital systems will purchase DataGen’s full range of health care data analytics and services. Along with MHA, the systems, Catholic Health Initiatives and Hospital Sisters Health System, join DataGen’s national client community, which includes 38 state health care associations and six multi-state health system clients. More than 85 percent of the hospitals in the United States receive DataGen’s unique products and services.

GE Healthcare has entered an agreement with Orion Sales Partners to promote the sales of GE’s Vivid Cardiovascular Ultrasound devices for clinicians in private practice. In addition, this includes sales of GE’s Diagnostic Cardiology line of products for the entire non-hospital market. These products include EKG and stress testing devices, patient monitoring and holter monitoring devices.

has announced the successful implementation of Centricity Enterprise under a Remote Hosted Option (RHO) delivery model at Marion General Hospital in Ohio. Marion General is the latest community hospital to shift to GE Healthcare’s Centricity Enterprise hospital EMR solution.
