ONC names two new certification bodies

By Diana Manos , Contributing writer

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) announced Friday two new authorized testing and certification bodies (ATCBs), bringing the total number to five.

ICSA Labs, based in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and SLI Global Solutions, in Denver will join three other organizations announced earlier this year. Both of the new companies will be able to certify modules and complete electronic health records for use in collecting health data to earn federal incentives for EHR adoption.

Earlier this year, ONC named the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT), Chicago, Ill.; the Drummond Group Inc. (DGI), Austin, Texas; and InfoGuard Laboratories, Inc., San Luis Obispo, Calif., as ATCBs.

EHR vendors can now have their products certified as meeting criteria to support meaningful use, by any of the five certified bodies.

ONC officials say they are collecting applications from other organizations wishing to become ATCBs on a rolling basis.

Providers can find a current list of all the products that have been certified by ATCBs on ONC's website.
