ONC launches certified product list website

By Diana Manos , Contributing writer

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology has launched a website where providers can find products that have been certified for meaningful use.

The ONC Certified HIT Product List (CHPL) provides a comprehensive listing of complete EHRs and EHR modules that have been tested and certified under the temporary certification program.

According to ONC, each complete EHR and EHR module listed on the website has been tested and certified by an ONC-Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ATCB). The website provides the names of the certified EHR technologies, the name of the certifying ATCB, the ONC certification number, vendor information, product information, and product version number.

The CHPL lists only those EHR technologies that have been tested, certified, and reported to ONC by an ONC-ATCB, with reports validated by ONC. According to ONC, "only those EHR technologies appearing on the ONC-Certified Health IT Product List may be granted the reporting number that will be accepted by CMS for purposes of attestation under the EHR meaningful use incentives programs."

As of Oct. 12, 40 products were listed on the site: four products certified by the Drummond Group and 36 certified by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT).

In addition to the these two, one other organization have been approved by ONC as ATCBs in its open rolling application process: InfoGard Laboratories, Inc.

CCHIT announced on Oct. 1 that it had certified 33 products, including 19 complete EHRs, which meet all of the 2011/2012 criteria for either eligible provider or hospital technology, and 14 EHR Modules, which meet one or more – but not all – of the criteria. Three more were verified late last week, and CCHIT's director Karen Bell said Monday that she expects the roll out to continue.
