ONC hosts assistance call for community colleges

By Molly Merrill , Associate Editor

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology is hosting a second technical assistance call for potential Community College Consortia Program applicants on Friday from 3-4 p.m. ET.

The Community College Consortia Program seeks to rapidly create HIT academic programs at community colleges or expand existing ones.

According to David Blumenthal, MD, the national coordinator for health information technology, the program will establish intensive, non-degree training that can be completed in six months or less by individuals with some background in either healthcare or IT. Participating colleges will coordinate their efforts through five regional consortia.

It is expected that by the end of the two-year project period, community colleges participating in the program will have established training programs with the capacity to collectively train at least 10,500 students annually to be part of the HIT workforce.
