Today, at the 2026 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exposition in Las Vegas, EHR vendor Meditech has unveiled new AI systems focused on improving the entire care experience by reducing clinician burden, actively engaging patients in their healthcare, and supporting crucial revenue generation for healthcare organizations. The company is in booth 5031 in the exhibit hall and booth 12623 in the Interop+Smart Experience Pavilion.
The core of these announcements centers on augmenting the clinician experience, including the natively developed Ambient Listening for Physicians and Nurses system, embedded within the workflows of the Expanse Now and Expanse Point of Care mobile apps.
Exploring the patient record
"Ask Expanse brings conversational AI to the point of care, allowing for an in-depth, interactive exploration of the patient's record," said Helen Waters, executive vice president and COO at Meditech. "Whether querying for specific summaries or asking clinical questions as they arise, clinicians can now move seamlessly from data retrieval to administrative action – including the automated generation of referral letters – all within a single, intelligent interface."
The company's MyHealth Assistant is an AI-powered portal companion aimed at helping patient engagement. This chatbot is designed to simplify complexity, allowing patients to navigate their health records and manage scheduling through natural conversation.
"In an era of razor-thin margins, we're introducing the Claim Denial Agent to reclaim lost revenue by automating the most labor-intensive stages of the appeals process," Waters said. "The agent autonomously researches denials and prioritizes claims with the highest likelihood of success. By extracting clinical evidence directly from the EHR to draft comprehensive appeals, the agent slashes administrative burden while accelerating the path to reimbursement.
"All of these solutions don't just solve isolated problems – they work in tandem to return time to clinicians, provide clarity to patients and recover revenue for the enterprise," she added.
Responsible governance
The company said its AI capabilities are developed to support users, ensuring a "human-in-the-loop" for responsible governance and control over clinical decision-making. The ultimate goal is to improve both the clinician's experience and patient outcomes within a scalable and sustainable set of technologies accessible to health systems of all sizes, Waters explained.
"Ambient Listening for Physicians and Nurses reduces burdens on clinicians, enabling them to spend more time with patients and practice at the top of their license," she said. "Conversations are captured in real time, and as they progress, documentation is generated in appropriate assessments, with feedback controls and editing capabilities to ensure accuracy.
"Ambient intelligence leads to more accurate code and charge capture, decreases time-to-bill, and reduces claim denials," she continued. "Ask Expanse provides faster access to information within the patient's chart for timely decision-making, leading to better outcomes."
The big message
Waters said the core message Meditech is delivering at HIMSS26 is a vision for a modern, open ecosystem that connects data across systems to deliver proactive, personalized care.
"This vision is supported through live demonstrations of how the intelligent, AI-infused Expanse EHR unburdens clinicians, streamlines their workflows, and empowers patients to take an active role in their health," she noted. "By leveraging seamless cross-system data exchange, we are emphasizing how Expanse's scalable platform can improve outcomes for a full range of health systems, from small rural hospitals to large integrated networks.
"Our goal is to ensure health systems of all types and sizes have equal access to the same advanced solutions, while maintaining the fiscal sustainability they need to remain independent and provide the best care to their local communities," she added.
The company is focused on the future of care, and this vision directly fulfills its foundational mission to enable healthcare organizations to deliver safe, efficient and impactful care, she continued.
Enhancing the human experience
"We understand that clinicians are currently overwhelmed by documentation and fragmented data, which is why the company is promoting a thoughtful, deliberate approach to interoperability and AI solutions that safely enhance the human experience," she explained. "We are particularly passionate about removing barriers to care, and that includes improving data liquidity to ensure that patient information is shared equitably and securely across health systems.
"Equally important is that once this data is exchanged, it is easily accessible and interpretable for clinicians," she added. "Interoperability solutions like Traverse Exchange present patient data from across health systems as an intuitive, consolidated summary of a patient's external data that's deduplicated, searchable, filterable and available for clinical decision support."
By integrating these insights directly into the native EHR workflow, the company is looking to reduce cognitive load and allow providers to remain focused on the patient rather than the technology, she concluded.
