Massive hiring event held for Mount Sinai

By Molly Merrill , Associate Editor

Next week a massive hiring event will be held for The Mount Sinai Medical Center, which is looking to take on 90 temporary technology trainers to help instruct staff on how to use its new electronic health record system.

Mount Sinai, a 1,171-bed, tertiary-care teaching facility in New York, is implementing an EHR form Verona, Wis.-based Epic Systems Corporation. In order to ease the transition away from paper, the hospital is looking to take on these new workers for three-to-six months

"Instead of targeting only those who already have experience training medical and administrative staff on healthcare technology systems, we are collaborating with Mount Sinai to give an opportunity to the many unemployed and under-employed New Yorkers who need a helping hand to transition to a more stable career path, or one that they will enjoy more than their current job," said Tiffany Crenshaw, president and CEO of Intellect Resources, the firm hired to host the event. "That's why we're opening our doors to anyone from actors to teachers, retirees and recent college graduates who think they have the innate personality, work ethic and people skills to succeed as a healthcare technology trainer."

Hospital officials say the audition is designed to have an element of surprise for the candidates because good trainers need to be adaptable and quick on their feet. It will also include an opportunity for finalists to show off their presentation skills and demonstrate what separates them from everyone else, and may also include traditional interviews.

"We're really hoping to find some great candidates from all walks of life who are interested in getting into the high growth field of healthcare technology," said Susan Brassell-Knox, director, Strategic Planning and Project Management Office at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. "The audition process is an exciting way to let candidates be a little more creative than the typical job interview, so we're looking forward to this unique "recruiting experience."

The event will be held on Nov. 5 from 8:00 am – 5:30 p.m. at the Marriott Marquis in New York. Click here for more information.
