Intel will expand the availability of its remote monitoring technology, the Intel Health Guide, across Europe, the company announced Wednesday at the World Health Congress.
Intel is working with partners in France, Germany, Spain and The Netherlands to bring local versions of the Intel Health Guide to market over the coming year.
Intel Health Guide combines an in-home patient device with the Intel Health Care Management Suite, an online system that allows physicians to remotely monitor patients and is able to connect to a variety of mobile and wired technology. Interactive tools, such as personalized care management, patient reminders, surveys, multimedia educational content, and communications tools allow physicians to manage the care of chronically ill patients.
“Chronic conditions can account for 70 percent of total health expenditure in Europe, especially if the conditions are poorly managed. With the average age of the population in Europe increasing, the number of people with chronic conditions will increase substantially over the coming years,” said Doug Busch, Vice President and Chief Technical Officer of Intel’s Digital Health Group. “The announcement...represents a major step forward in addressing new models of care. It demonstrates an industry commitment to developing the personal health market globally, with the goal of utilizing technology to improve the lives of seniors and people living with chronic illness.”
The European Commission has recently adopted the European Action Plan - Aging Well in the Information Society, addressing the needs of the elderly through the use of IT. The Continua Health Alliance, an organization of over 200, aims to create guidelines for chronic disease management and monitoring the health of the elderly and to ensure the interoperability of health IT. The Intel Health Guide is Continua-compliant.
Intel is working to market the Intel Health Guide on a global scale, with additional European-language versions to be announced later in the year.
In the United Kingdom, United States, Ireland, and Australia, the Intel Health Guide is already commercially available.
