Homerton University Hospital in London has installed three CARESTREAM DRX-1 Systems, which feature a wireless, cassette sized detector. The hospital, located just two miles from the main Olympic venues, will be able to image athletes with the new DR technology in half the time.
Previous audits showed that the patient process took 40 minutes, but with the CARESTREAM systems, the turnaround for the imaging process has been reduced to 20 minutes.
"Our x-ray equipment was only five or six years old but we definitely needed DR functionality," explained Colin West, Head of Imaging Services. "We purchased the DRX-1 systems to achieve improvements in productivity and efficiency and the systems immediately accomplished those goals."
As a result of the improvements in clinical workflow, the hospital is also planning to redesign the radiology department to facilitate a more efficient patient process.
