On Friday, doctors in Nepal will leverage a new IT solution to participate in an educational session, watching live video of a surgery performed halfway around the world.
SURGiVIEW, a U.S.-based surgical live event technology and online healthcare educational community, will be streaming a minimally invasive hysterectomy live to the physicians in Nepal to help educate them on how best to execute the procedure while upholding the quality of care.
“It’s going to change the situation in Nepal beyond anyone’s imagination,” said Shail Rupakheti, MD, a general surgeon in Kathmandu, about SURGiVIEW’s video training event in Nepal.
The 150 participating physicians will be observing the operating phyisician, Richard Rosenfield, MD, at the Pearl Women's Center in Portland, Oregon.
“Surgery is advancing so quickly that even the most skilled surgeons need to stay abreast of new techniques and instruments,” says Rosenfield. “Being able to keep surgeons up-to-date in real time, as new procedures are innovated or improved, will have a revolutionary impact on medicine.”
SURGiVIEW officials said the technology was developed with HIPAA-compliance in mind, and is a global reaching technology that is expected to break down barriers in training across hemispheres. To date, SURGiVIEW has facilitated live surgical events in over 30 countries.
