Denver summit is all about meaningful use

First up today at the first day of the Institute for Health Technology Transformation's summer summit: talk about meaningful use.

Barry Chaiken, MD, chief medical officer of DocsNetwork and chairman of the HIMSS board, delivers the keynote titled, "Meaningful Use: Is it meaningful?"

A panel discussing "Meaningful Use - Where do you go from here?" will precede Chaiken's keynote.

Weighing in are:

  • Mark Levine, MD, chief medical officer, Denver Region, The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services  
  • Evon Holladay, vice president, business intelligence, Catholic Health Initiatives
  • Andrew Steele, MD, director, medical informatics, Denver Health
  • Dana Moore, senior vice president and CIO, Centura Health
  • Gary Kolbeck, healthcare general manager, LodgeNet Interactive Corp.
  • Swati Abbott, president, MEDai

Later on Tuesday, the conference will present case studies of successful health IT implementations.

Chris Wood, medical director of information services at Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City will talk about Innovation in healthcare IT and whether meaningful use is a driver or detractor.

Cathleen Crowley, CIO of Columbia Memorial Hospital in New York and Roy Sanford, chief marketing officer at Stratus, are teaming up to discuss a SaaS HER implementation that provides Columbia with more than 99.999 percent uptime.

At the afternoon keynote, Lynn H. Vogel, vice president and CIO of The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Institute takes on the topic of interoperability.
