The Health Advancement Collaborative of Central New York (HAC-CNY), a regional health information exchange based in Syracuse, picked Axolotl Inc. to provide it with HIE applications.
In a multi-year agreement, HIE application developer Axolotl will initially link four Syracuse-area hospitals, a number of large primary-care practices, and Laboratory Alliance of Central New York. The HIE will deploy Axolotl's Elysium Exchange products.
The HIE will use federal, state and local funds to launch the exchange.
HAC-CNY aims to expand the HIE to include other providers beginning in 2011. The plan is for the HIE to interoperate with the Statewide Health Information Network of NY, a linkage that would let HAC-CNY exchange information with other state RHIOs.
In addition to HAC-CNY, Axolotl provides applications for New York RHIOs including Bronx RHIO, Rochester RHIO, HealtheLink and Interboro RHIO.
In Western New York, HealtheLink today said it extended its HIE to include Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Physicians at both facilities now can access patient data including lab and radiology reports and prescription histories, according to HealtheLink.
