Epic has once again been named the top Overall Health System Suite, according to the 2026 annual Best in KLAS report published this week, followed again by Meditech and Oracle Health, for the 16th consecutive year.
Also, athenahealth won the Overall Independent Physician Practice Suite award for the third year in a row, and Optimum Healthcare IT supplanted Evergreen Healthcare Partners as the top Overall Implementation Services Firm.
Meanwhile, Epic won 11 other Best in KLAS awards and athenahealth took top placement in four individual categories. The Boston-based, cloud software service vendor took top marks in the Ambulatory Behavioral Health and the Ambulatory EHR category for providers with greater than 75 physicians. It's also Best in KLAS for both Ambulatory EHR and Practice Management for independent practices with 11-75 physicians.
KLAS has awarded Chartis the top Overall IT Services Firm for the second year in a row, and it won in the Financial/Clinical Improvement Consulting and the HIT Core Clinical Implementation Leadership segments.
Optimum Healthcare IT became the top Overall Implementation Services Firm for a series of high marks for Go-Live Support, HIT Core Clinical Implementation Leadership, HIT Staffing, IT Planning & Assessment and Managed IT Services. Evergreen Healthcare Partners, which was the top firm in the category the previous two years, received above-average marks for clinical implementation leadership this year.
Software and services from TeleVox, Greenway Health and PwC were deemed most improved for 2026, achieving the highest percentage increase in score from the previous year's Best in KLAS rankings, while Citi, Medecision, NextGen Healthcare, Philips, RLDatix and Edifecs earned significant improvement recognitions.
Adam Gale, CEO and cofounder of KLAS Research, said in the new report that the health sector has seen a remarkable transformation in many areas over the past year, particularly with the rise of ambient speech technology.
"The impact is tangible," he said. "Physicians tell us they feel like doctors again. One health system even surveyed the spouses of their physicians and found that physicians are making it home for dinner more often. That's more than a workflow improvement; it's a restoration of balance, purpose and joy in the work of healing."
For this year's Best in KLAS rankings, the organizations updated eight segments, retired seven and added 11 new categories: ADT Notifications; Ambulatory Plastic Surgery Solutions; Business Process as a Service (Payer); Business Solutions Implementation Services; Cybersecurity Solutions; Early Out Services; Large System Integrators; Patient Engagement: Other Validated Software; Payer/Provider Data Exchange; Payer Strategy & Contracting; and Revenue Cycle Prior Authorization.
